As per organization’s Strategic Plan 2020-2025, Agriculture sector focuses on capacity building of farmers, development of irrigation systems, establishment of greenhouses and farmers’ field schools, natural resource management, and distribution of agriculture inputs to target beneficiaries. During 2021, Agriculture and Livestock sector was engaged in implementation of 5 agriculture projects with the main outcome of provision of agricultural inputs to beneficiaries.
As agriculture issue is dependent to the climate conditions and rates of precipitation in the country, due to high precipitation agricultural productivity was better in comparison to the previous years. Unfortunately, previous severe drought in the country resulted in lower income for rural households, large internal displacement in the country, negative impact on the water resources and livelihoods conditions, and even continued in 2020. Thus, because of above mentioned problems, poverty rate in the country gradually increased from 59-72%. Throughout 2021, Agriculture and Livestock sector will continue its activities according to aslo’s Strategic Plan 2021-2025, focusing on providing technical trainings; agriculture inputs; improving irrigation systems (establishing of irrigation systems & rehabilitation and cleaning of irrigation canals); increasing of agricultural productivities; natural source management; nutrient diversity; improving of livestock management, and linking producers to market. Also, agriculture sector for supporting farmers, researchers, and solution of agricultural field problems will start scientific research in sector covered.
Helping farmers online: Through this process, farmers who face with various problems such as diseases, pests, nutrient deficiencies, and other problems, they can contact with ASLO-Agriculture specialist via Facebook, and after analyzing problem by Agriculture specialist, they will receive back the recommendation and instruction for solving their problems.
